Frequently Asked Questions

Honest answers, including the ones that don't help us sell anything.

How do I bid on government contracts?

In order: (1) get your business basics in order — entity, EIN (free from the IRS), business bank account, and an honest statement of what you can perform; (2) register on your state's vendor list so buyers can find you; (3) build your local map — every city, county, school district, and authority in your service area, and where each posts work; (4) set up saved searches and alerts so postings come to you; (5) read each solicitation end-to-end — scope, deadline, required forms, and how responses are judged; (6) respond completely and on time, only for work you can actually perform. The free starter guide walks this path in full, and the Kit systematizes the finding and reading steps.

How to bid on government contracts — what does a bid actually require?

A complete response to the solicitation's instructions: the required forms, your pricing, evidence you can perform (capacity, licenses, or insurance where the posting requires them), submitted through the stated channel before the stated deadline. Most bids are lost on completeness and deadlines, not on brilliance — which is why the Kit pairs every opportunity with a Reader and a bid/no-bid checklist.

Should I start with state or federal contracts?

State and local first, for most beginners. The pools are thinner, contract sizes fit small businesses, cycles are faster, and mistakes are lessons instead of catastrophes. Federal is the biggest pool and a real opportunity — it is a later level in our system (a paid tier), not the starting door. Build the rhythm and the track record at state level first.

Do you teach the federal registration process for free?

No. Federal registration is covered as a guided walkthrough inside Packet 2 ("State + Federal"), a paid packet, because it is the step where beginners stall longest and where guided detail matters most. Free content — the guide, the blog — stays at the state and local level and names federal only as the next level. Nothing about your state start waits on it.

Is winning a contract guaranteed?

No. No guarantee of winning, of revenue, or of any result — here or anywhere honest. Most businesses that register never win a contract, and a first contract, if it comes, usually takes months. What the Kit promises is narrower and real: matched bids, found across your state and local posting systems and read with you in plain language. Your outcomes depend on your offer, your prices, and your performance.

What does the Kit actually do?

Two jobs: finding — it builds your searches across state and local posting systems from your business profile, so matching opportunities arrive filtered; and reading — it works through each solicitation with you, surfacing the deadline, requirements, and decision points, with a bid/no-bid checklist. It does not bid for you, price for you, or perform the work.

Do I need another AI subscription?

No. The Kit runs on the AI you already pay for — your existing AI subscription does the computing; the Kit supplies the workflows, structure, and checklists that make it useful for this specific job. We never ask you to buy a second AI plan through us.

How fast will I see bids?

Sign up in minutes. Within an hour, you're looking at real government bids matched to your business — that is the try, start to finish: a profile built, searches running, and matched postings in front of you. Seeing matched bids is not the same as winning a contract; bidding well, consistently, over months is the honest timeline for results.

What does it cost after the free starter?

Monthly subscriptions — three packets: Packet 1 "State" $299/mo (your chosen state + 2 bonus states) · Packet 2 "State + Federal" $499/mo · Packet 3 "Nationwide" $799/mo (all states + full federal). A one-time setup fee (~$300) is the only one-time charge, and the free 7-day try is your entry to Packet 1. Packets add to what you have; nothing is wiped, your setup carries over, and accuracy corrections are free at every level, forever. Full detail on the Kit page.

Is registering to sell to the government a scam risk?

Registering itself is legitimate — and mostly free. Your EIN is free, and most state vendor registrations are free or a small official fee paid on the government's own site. The scam is third parties charging hundreds for "registration services" with manufactured urgency. Pay only official fees, only on official government sites, only for processes you started.

Can I do all of this myself, free?

Yes. The free starter guide contains the complete manual path — all 24 steps, nothing withheld. The Kit sells time and effort saved, not secrets. Many owners start by hand and add the system when the weekly hunting and reading starts costing more than the Kit does.

Which states does this work in?

The process is universal and the free starter covers one state — yours — with its own portal walkthrough. Our worked examples use Washington and Oklahoma. Additional states are available at the Top Level.
